Nigerian journalist Amina Yuguda wins BBC World News 'Komla Dumor' award

Amina Yuguda, a news presenter on local network Gotel Television in north-eastern Nigeria has won the third BBC World News Komla Dumor Award.

She has reported on high-profile news stories, including the Boko Haram insurgency. She will start a three-month placement at the BBC in London this month.

She impressed the panel with her story-telling and her ability to convey complex ideas in a way that resonates with a wide audience.

A very excited Amina says, 'I was overwhelmed with joy. Storytellers have always had an important role in Africa, this is what defines us. Today journalists are taking on that responsibility. With little or no formal education, my countrymen can hold their own in a variety of topics, including the Trump presidency in America, North Korea's defiance, Russia's foreign relations under Putin, and more'.

BBC World Service Group Director Francesca Unsworth said Ms Yuguda was a worthy winner; 'to find someone who possesses many of Komla's qualities is something for us to celebrate, and we are very excited about working with Amina'.

Previous winners of the Komla Dumor Award were Ugandan news anchor Nancy Kacungira and Nigerian business journalist Didi Akinyelure. The award was created to honour Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly at the age of 41 in 2014.

President George Weah's One Day National Forum Successfully Attended by 26 Political Parties

On Thursday, August 8, 2018, President George Weah had a sit down with 26 political parties of Liberia. The meeting aimed at advancing ideals that promote the spirit of national unity and political tolerance between opposition political parties and the government. ANC, LP and UP attended the meeting as a team. According to Deputy Minister Eugene L. Fahngon, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs at Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism, all 26 political parties attended and participated from start to finish. Liberian Superstar Quincy B Dead

2 March 2017 / Berenice Mulubah Quincy B On March 3, 2017, Liberian superstar, Quincy L. Borrow aka Quincy B, died from a car accident, on his way from KARAOKE NITE, in Monrovia, Liberia. The artist was pulled out of the damaged vehicle and rush to the JFK hospital. Quincy B did not survived. Few hours before his death, the artist was spotted live on snap chat, singing Karaoke. Quincy B who was the driver of the car, died immediately. Artists CIC , Margas Bimba and Feouls Kaba in the vehicle, as well, they are at the hospital, being treated. CIC broken his legs in the accident. CIC and Quincy B are nominated for the Liberian Entertainment Awards 2017.
