The Office of the First Lady, Madam Kartumu Y. Boakai, has announced the suspension of two staff members, Mr. Varfee Holmes and Mr. Lemuel Vah, for their involvement in an unauthorized solicitation of funds.
The suspension, which will last for one month without pay, comes after allegations that the two staffers collected $4,000 from a Liberian parent under the pretense of securing scholarships for his children to study in Great Britain.
According to the Office of the First Lady, Republic of Liberia, both individuals have since refunded the full amount to the affected parent.
Madam Boakai has reiterated the importance of integrity and professionalism within her office, warning all staff to uphold the dignity expected in serving the Liberian people.
On Thursday, August 8, 2018, President George Weah had a sit down with 26 political parties of Liberia. The meeting aimed at advancing ideals that promote the spirit of national unity and political tolerance between opposition political parties and the government. ANC, LP and UP attended the meeting as a team. According to Deputy Minister Eugene L. Fahngon, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs at Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism, all 26 political parties attended and participated from start to finish.
