Bishop Mai Roberts of the Faith Healing Temple dies at 97 Monrovia – The Right Reverend, Bishop Mai Roberts of the Faith Healing Temple Church of Jesus Christ, has died. Bishop Roberts, who went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ early Monday, January 28, died at 97. According to family sources, funeral arrangements will be announced later. Born Mai Barclay to a humble mother, Sarah Reeves and a former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Anthony Barclay, Sr.— her father was the son of former President Arthur Barclay. She joined the Faith Healing Temple in 1971 as a minister under its founder, the legendary Wilhelmina Bryant Dukuly. She took over as head pastor of Faith Healing Temple following the demise of Dukuly in 1990 amid huge doubts over whether she could ably fit in the shoes of the outspoken founder. Liberia: Sierra Leonean Woman Gets 8 Years for Human Trafficking

Hawa Bangura, a Sierra Leonean woman tried and found guilty of human trafficking, will have to spend eight years of her life in a Liberian prison. She was sentenced on Thursday, January 17, 2019 by Presiding Judge Roosevelt Willie when he rendered the final judgment in the human trafficking case involving Defendant Bangura who has been detained at the Monrovia Central Prison since her arrest on November 30, 2017. Though, one guilty of human trafficking by law is required to spend the maximum sentence of 10 years, Judge Willie of the Criminal Court”A” at the Temple of Justice stated that the court could not sentence Defendant Bangura for 10 prison years because report obtained by the court from the Probation Office about her character shows that she had no previous criminal record.  MONROVIA, Montserrado – Youth and Sports Minister Zeogar Wilson says he is pleased with the just-ended 2018-19 National County Sports Meet. Dr. Grace-Ann Dinkins, a Liberian surgeon based in the United States of America, arrived in the country on Wednesday, January 16 to meet with senior government officials, including Montserrado County District#9 Representative Munah Pelham Youngblood. Dr. Dinkins is a Liberian awards athlete from the 1984, 1995 and 2000 summer Olympics in the U.S. According her travel itinerary, while in the country, Dr. Dinkins will hold discussions with the government and some humanitarian groups to identify priorities, particularly underprivileged girls. Dinkins is the chief executive officer (ECO) of the Africa Investor Group (AIG), a company that helps medical institutions and other humanitarian organizations. Liberia seeks U.S police assistance

Liberia National Police  Liberia’s Police Chief Col. Patrick Sudue has appealed to the New York Police Department in the United States to assist in building the criminal investigative capacity of the Liberian Police and to develop coordination between the two entities in ensuring the fight against terrorism, cyber crimes and transnational crimes. Liberian Police Spokesman Moses Carter told journalists in Monrovia Tuesday, 8 January that Col. Sudue held meeting with some authorities at the New York Police Department (NYPD) in person of Joseph Reznick, Deputy Commissioner of Internal Affairs; Thomas P. Galati, Chief of Intelligence; and John B. Hart, Deputy Chief Executive officer, Intelligence Bureau. Additionally Col. Liberia to get new music festival

Liberia Hipco  The All Liberian Music Festival will be organised by entertainment company Uprok Events. The company's CEO T Mark Korpu said the event would take place at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia on 14 March. It would feature performances from several A-list artists and bring together producers and record label scouts in search of new artists. "The festival is predicated upon the need to sow neatly and tightly the loose intra-cultural relationship in Liberia by using music as a potent weapon of intercultural understanding, and medium of appreciation for the country’s arts and culture," Korpu said. Geraldine Barclay King  WOONSOCKET – The Northern Rhode Island Council of the Arts has announced the names of five contestants for the title of queen of the 2019 Mardi Gras Ball festivities. German soccer club Paderborn 07 has signed two forwards from the United States, including former Tyler Junior College standout  Mohammed Kamara, to help its bid for promotion back to the Bundesliga, TJC coach Steve Clements said. The second-division club announced Kamara, after a year with UCLA, will join the Paderborn , German club. Khiry Shelton is joining from Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City. The 21-year-old Kamara (6-0, 170), who was born in Monrovia, Liberia, scored five goals in 14 games for UCLA. He signed a deal through June 2020 with Paderborn, worth around $300,000, Clements said. Police in Grand Kru County are interrogating the City Solicitor of Barclyville Sauda Blamo and three other persons, including a clan chief in connection with the death of a man identified as Oldman Beah, 25. The deceased reportedly drowned on December 30, 2018 in the Dorbor River in Bottoh Poe town, Bolloh District, Grand Kru County. His remains were discovered on December 31, the following day. According to the Police, City Solicitor Blamo allegedly ordered the burial of the late Oldman Beah without proper investigation.  The National Council of Chiefs and Elders of Liberia (NACCEL) has frowned on early child Marriage in Liberia, calling government to take action against the practice here. Leaders and members of the council spoke at a dialogue Tuesday, 8 January in Monrovia, requesting government to put stop to any other harmful traditional practices against women and children. The dialogue was organized by NACCEL in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs with support from the United Nations Population Fund.The group recommends that government takes immediate action in stopping teenage pregnancy by denouncing early child marriage in all sectors of society.  The Criminal Court “A” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia has sentenced a woman believed to be 26 years old, Jonetta Pinky Abul to 25 years imprisonment for murdering her fiancé, Morris Johnson. In his final judgment Monday, 7 January, Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie ordered that Pinky serves 22 years behind bars, and three years on parole, based on proof of good behavior.But both prosecutors and defense counsels have taken exception against Judge Willie’s ruling. Liberia: 26 Home-based Players Invited for Lone Star Training Camp

 MONROVIA, Montserrado – The head coach of the Liberian national team, Thomas Kojo, has invited 26 locally based players for Lone Star’s training camp ahead of the crucial 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against D.R. Congo in Kinshasa on March 22. The list, which includes four goalkeepers, eight defenders, 10 midfielders, and four strikers, is dominated by LISCR Football Club, which is represented by nine players. The 2018 Liberia Football Association First Division champions, Barrack Young Controllers, followed with eight players while the LPRC Oilers has four players included. Nigerian firm to build 100 000 housing units in Liberia

 Liberia’s National Housing Authority (NHA) and Chaste Mutual Investment Limited of Nigeria have reached a deal for the construction of 100,000 housing units.According to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two institutions, Chaste Mutual will provide financial and technical support towards the construction of the housing units, while the NHA will be responsible for the architectural work. At the signing of the pact Tuesday, NHA’s officer-in-charge Tonia D. Johnson represented her institution, while Chaste Investment Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ayo Olatunde was there for his firm.
